A waterfall higher than Niagara Falls and buried in the highlands of northern Peru. We hiked down, down, down into the basin of the lower falls. My legs shook with exhaustion. Jonathan tripped at one point and literally went over the edge of a cliff, saved from certain death by a patch of overhanging brush that caught him before he could fall too far. We reached the bottom at last, tightened the hoods of our jackets around our heads. The temperature dropped dramatically. Gusts of wind kicked up and water sprayed against our faces. The landscape was huge and lush and: a fast moving brown river, green mountains, and steep, rocky cliffs.
